Summer Sailing: Leeuwin II
When a good friend heard I was coming to WA and offered me a ride on the Leeuwin II, (operated by Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation ) I jumped at the opportunity to bring my kit and take some shots for a good cause.
Volunteers bring in the headsails on Leeuwin II
STS Leeuwin II is Australia’s largest sail training tall ship. It has day sailings open to the public (like the one I jumped on for) but more importantly, since 1986, it's crew of volunteers has also run youth programs aimed at developing core skills and supporting high school students.
A day sail on Leeuwin II goes from 3 - 4 hours (depending on the wind) with light refreshments, a tour of the ship and an opportunity to climb to bow or foremast ( if good weather permits). As a side note - make sure you slip, slop, slap cause the sun really got me good and crispy. Closed toe shoes are also a must (you’re sailing after all - get into the spirit of it!).
If you’d like to chat all things sail boats (I’m not sure I’ll be much help, but can take pictures..) get in contact here
